“Hummingbird Moms”

“Hummingbird Moms” do all the work. Once the seed is planted, the male becomes a “Deadbeat Dad”. Now it’s up the mom to carry the load of building the nest, laying the eggs, and rearing the nestlings. After hatching, she spends all her time either brooding the nestlings or foraging for small flying insects to provide a high protein diet for rapid growth.

The Anna’s and Allen’a Hummingbird was shot in Ventura, California with a Canon XL H1 and 80-400mm lens. The Black-chinned Hummingbird was shot in Ojai, California with a Panasonic GH3 and Panasonic 100-300mm lens. To enjoy more bird videos, please visit http://birdsdesjardin.com .
